Why Choose Montessori Schools for Your Child?

Montessori is a term synonomous with quality education. Montessori is not a method of teaching or a word used to describe teaching materials. Montessori is instead a program that involves closely watching and nurturing the natural development of youth.

Montessori education was founded in 1907, by Dr. Maria Montessori. Maria made Italian history when she was the first woman in her country to become a doctor. She came up with her educational theory after applying scientific analysis to children's natural learning processes. Montessori learned that if you give them the proper materials and a nurturing environment, children will freely teach themselves.

Dr. Montessori prepared a special environment where children could have their choice of several appropriate educational activities. In this classroom that was known as a casa dei bambina (children's house) students used all five senses to explore and learn. Almost 100 years after the very first Montessori school, there are locations all around the world.

Montessori schools welcome children from birth to the teenage years. In a Montessori classroom, children are grouped in ages spanning three years. For example, a three year old will be in the same classroom as a six year old. This is so the younger children can learn from the older ones, and the older ones can learn how to teach them.

Another important part of a Montessori education is the lack of correction. Instead of using glaring red marks, each child's work is accepted as well as respected as is. If the child is having trouble in an individual area, the instructor will devise a constructive way for him or her to learn what they need to know to improve.

The cost of a Montessori education will vary depending on your location and the individual owner of the school. The median range is usually several thousand dollars, but can be a lot less or a lot more, depending. Sometimes, public schools offer Montessori programs free of charge. Speak to your school administrator to find out if any Montessori programs are offered in your educational area.

A Montessori education can be a wonderful thing for children and parents alike. If you're interested in enrolling your child or would like to learn more, the Internet is full of websites devoted to the Montessori program.
