All About Montessori Day Care

The word Montessori applies to education, yes, but there's more to it than that. Montessori teaching follows a certain philosophy, and understanding what this educational philosophy entails is the first step in deciding if it's right for your child.
In 1907, Dr. Maria Montessori, Italy's first female physician, created the Montessori teaching method. Dr. Montessori was the director of a casa dei bambini, or children's house. In this house, she took poor orphans off the street and educated them using her own methods. Her progress was so amazing that it attracted attention from all over. She believed that when put in a supportive and nurturing environment, children will naturally learn and teach one another. With a Montessori education, the focus is on experiencing, creating and doing.
In addition to Montessori schools, there are Montessori day care centers available for children who aren't yet old enough to attend elementary school. These Montessori day care centers usually accept children from six weeks of age to elementary school age. At one of these child care centers, your child's intellectual development will be nurtured and he or she will have the opportunity to create, experience, and interact with the world around them as well as other children.
Montessori day care centers usually provide nutritious meals and snacks as part of their programs. There are also such fun things like field trips and holiday themed activities. Because the Montessori method is so focused on what children naturally need to learn and thrive, there's no better child care facility to place your child in than a Montessori one!
Many parents decide to enroll their children into a Montessori elementary school after having them in a Montessori day care. This is a natural progression and will help strengthen and reinforce all the skills that your child learned while in day care.
The cost of a Montessori day care will depend on several factors. Because these facilities are privately owned, costs will vary depending on such issues as your location, the age of your child, and the policies of the individual facility. There is normally a registration fee you'll need to pay in addition to the tuition costs.
